Ayd's Pharmacy In The 1800's

Ayd's Pharmacy

Dr. Ayd, who performed many acts of charity over a long lifespan, had six children . . . a doctor, a Jesuit Priest, a banker, a law enforcement office, a farmer's wife and -- a Pharmacist!!

Dr. John J. Ayd was a medical doctor and pharmacist in the late 1800's. He ran a pharmacy (apothecary) at the corner of Monument & Washington Streets, across from the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Mention of this pharmacy appears as early as the 1886 Baltimore city directory.
